A closer look at the person behind WOOF’s internal data dashboard, and what the numbers on it actually look like from the inside.<\/em><\/p>\n

Somewhere in the middle of building an internal dashboard, Jonas, WOOF’s Data Scientist, found himself looking at a number that made him pause: total check-ins recorded on WOOF were up 172% compared to the same point last year. Not a typo. Just how much the dataset had grown since the last time anyone looked this closely.<\/p>\n

How he got here<\/h2>\n

Jonas’s interest in WOOF starts with the data itself. “The data itself is very interesting, and the aspect of well-being is, at least to my knowledge, not very well documented or well founded,” he says. “There are so many unknowns in this area, that’s very interesting. And our dataset is also unique and interesting.” It’s a researcher’s answer as much as an engineer’s, well-being in classrooms is a field with more open questions than settled answers, and WOOF’s dataset is one of the more specific tools available for actually looking at it.<\/p>\n

What WOOF’s Data Scientist Actually Works On<\/h2>\n

Lately, that’s meant two parallel things: an internal dashboard he’s been building that he’s genuinely proud of, and a project he started with Amalie that they’ve taken to calling Trendspotting, digging into WOOF’s data to find patterns worth sharing publicly.<\/p>\n

As of September 1, 2026, that dashboard shows 172% more check-ins recorded in total than at the same point last year, alongside 1,229 active classrooms (up 42%) and 44,100 total student Pattern Breaks (up 247%). “That’s a lot more data than what I was used to,” Jonas says.<\/p>\n

What doesn’t show up in numbers like that is the work behind them. A conversation with a colleague about workflows recently changed how Jonas thinks about his own process, “that really got me thinking about what kind of workflow am I even using.” And he’s quick to point out that a single published finding sits on top of a lot of testing that never becomes visible, “feature engineering is something that we underrate,” he says, “there’s so much work that goes beyond it, so many notes and results that don’t even get used for anything.”<\/p>\n

Why it matters to him<\/h2>\n

Asked what he’d want more people to understand about how WOOF actually gets built, Jonas didn’t point to the product. He pointed to the team. “WOOF is made up of a small team, a very passionate team, a team that cares deeply about well-being in schools and has ties to schools,” he says. “I believe most, if not all of us working here at WOOF have at some point been in a teacher role. It’s a thing that’s very dear to us.”<\/p>\n

That’s the thread running under a dashboard tracking thousands of active classrooms and tens of thousands of Pattern Breaks, and a data project named Trendspotting alongside it: a small team that’s mostly stood in a classroom themselves, still testing, still digging, to find the next thing worth sharing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
